Physical DescriptionClear glass with few bubbles and very slight grey tinge; wear marks at base; free-blown and enameled. Cylindrical beaker with pushed up base having very rough pontil mark; enamel decoration: on the body an elaborate hunting scene in multicolored enamel, predominantly in white, green, yellow and red-brown; a net is attached to two large trees and runs spirally from top to bottom from right to left around three-quarters of the body; two full- length figures of hunters clad in green with dark blue hats are standing facing each other, the one on the left holding a white covered beaker; a succession of animals and hounds, also in a spiral movement are proceeding to the left around the vessel starting at the bottom with two dogs, a hare, a fox, a deer, and a stag; the empty spaces are filled by a white branch with a blue blossom, many small white rosettes and stars as well as a white star-like spiral and two other red and blue flowers, white stalks and leaves; above the scene on the back is the inscription: "Ich heisse Michel Zitzmann, und du Heist Hansz Cunrath Christ. Du mein, Hertzlieber Bruder, bist hir, schick ich dir ein glasselein, das Schenckst du ein mit bier und wein und trinck es ausz in leben dein, disz soll der Jager gesundheit sein. Anno 1712." (My name...and you are named....my good brother you are here, I send you a glass fill it with beer and wine and empty it during your lifetime, this will be good to the health of the hunter); below rim a yellow band with dark brown lines representing a pattern of ovals and diamonds and accompanied by three white lines and two U-shaped friezes, another U-shaped frieze at the bottom of the scene; one hare is painted on the interior, "behind" the net.
