Interpretive Notes
This object was catalogued originally as "Partho-Sasanian." However, the head of Medusa suggests that it was made in the Roman world. Presumably the head had apotropaic significance.
Physical DescriptionSemi-opaque deep green glass, with opaque white blob; rod heated until soft, then bent into ring so that ends met and fused on cooling; junction pinched and somewhat flattened to form bezel; white blob dropped onto bezel and stamped. Circular to D-shaped cross section. Bezel is roughly oval and is decorated with white disk bearing head of Medusa in prominent relief.
