Interpretive Notes
Fern Green Tower was made in 1999. At Chihuly's request, it was reconfigured by Chihuly Studio in 2013 to increase its height from 11 feet to 15 1/2 feet. The sculpture was disassembled and cleaned, and a new steel structure was put into place. The sculpture was then reassembled with 200 additional blown glass elements, making a total of 712 handmade elements that are attached to the steel structure. Fern Green Tower is one of a series of large-scale towers and chandeliers that Chihuly has produced in a constellation of colors. Exuberant in spirit and ambitious in scope, these impressive glass sculptures are housed in museums, concert halls, corporate offices, public spaces, and private residences around the world.
