Interpretive Notes
This pendant was made in three parts (the body, the base, and the loop), which were joined by fusing. Sidney M. Goldstein identified the object as Egyptian and of the 18th or 19th Dynasty. Spaer, however, published an identical pendant, and several similar pieces, and identified them convincingly as of the third or fourth century A.D.
Physical DescriptionOpaque very deep brown appearing black glass, with opaque light yellow trail. Rod-formed, applied, and tooled. Globular body; jar is decorated with continuous yellow zig-zag, which is flush with wall; it has a disk-shaped pad base and suspension loop at top. Cavity in zig-zag and second cavity in loop appear to be broken bubbles.
