Physical DescriptionMulti-colored stained glass; lead came, assembled. Double-light window and multi-light tracery with angels, Christ and the symbol of the trinity. Left light: John in a red robe and green cloak stands in a curtained niche. Behind the niche and in the lower panel is a ground of dense foliage and fruit, a type of ground introduced by William Morris and repeated in many studios, including Heaton, Butler & Bayen, during the Aesthetic period. In the same lower panel there is a roundel of red flashed glass etched with the letter "J" and an inscription from John 19.26 "Woman, Behold Thy son." (The verse is directed to the Virgin as Christ sees the disciple John.) Right light: Similar to the left except the figure within the niche represents Mary clothed in a red robe and blue cloak. The letter in the lower panel is an "M" and the inscription, "Behold, Thy Mother" is from John verse 19.27Provenance
