Physical DescriptionClear glass with very few bubbles and impurities; free-blown, enameled and gilded. (Aa) Spherical body tapering at bottom and resting on pedestal foot with flaring rim and rough pontil mark, wide straight-sided neck slightly tapering downwards, two solid ear-shaped handles applied to neck; (Ab) flanged domed cover with ball finial; on the obverse (neck), "Schaper"-like partly translucent predominantly black multicolored enamel the half figure "King Augustus of Poland" (Duke of Saxony) in full attire; underneath on the body the coat-of-arms of Saxony; on the reverse flanked by two motifs one cartouche-like, the other star-like, a tray-like object on which rest a helm, a saber and a lance, below rim on the neck an inscription; black bands on lower portion of body, at joints of parts of body; the handles are painted black, diamond-shaped black areas at neck at handle area; around upper foot a band in silver stain and black with S-shaped motifs; on the cover a similar motif, with scratched in wavy lines, above flange a thorn-like wreath, finial painted black. (B) Beaker; cylindrical body with concave base having rough pontil mark; on the obverse in multicolored enamel predominantly in greyish blue and purple, full length figure of Augustus King of Poland with mustache in stately attire, leaning with his right hand on a staff which rests on a pedestal on which there are his crown and scepter; on the reverse the coat-of-arms of Saxony, underneath an inscription; bottom and rim are painted black. (C) Beaker; on the obverse predominantly in black tones and gold, the full length figure of Louis XIV, in stately attire, on the right a pedestal with cushion on which he leans his staff which he has in his left hand, on the cushion scepter and crown; on the reverse the coat-of-arms of France, underneath an inscription; dark bands around bottom and rim.
