Physical DescriptionChromatophotoptometer in Original Box. Brass, quartz, glass, wood, leather, velvet, satin; assembled. (a) Cylindrical brass instrument mounted upon a finger ring and a swing-away aperture. Cylinder contains an optical train including a cut quartz plate and polarizing Nicol prism. Shaft engraved: "Chromatophotoptometre du Dr. Chibret / GIROUX PARIS". Circular silver plate inscribed: "JAUNE", "ORANGE", "ROUGE", and "VIOLET". (b) Original wood box bound in black leather (granulated to simulate fish skin), and lined in red velvet and red satin. Interior of lid inscribed in gold: "EXPOSITIONS UNIVERSELLES M?EDAILLES D'OR / MON P. ROULOT / GIROUX SUCCr / OPTICIEN CONSTRUCTEUR / PARIS / 58. QUAI DES ORFEVRES. 58. / PR?ES LE PONT NEUF.", "PARIS / 1878", and "PARIS / 1889".Provenance
