Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; lampworked; mercury, paper and wood. (a-d) Tubular form with rounded ends; on the top end, a thin, long tube; on the other end, a pointed ovoid partly filled with mercury; the large tube with rectangular paper label inside, printed in red, "ALCOMMETRE CENTESIMAL/TYPE DE/L'ALAMBIC DUJARDIN (Modele 1903)/Succr de SALLERON, Paris/ADOPTE PAR LA DIRECTION GENERALE/DES CONTRIBUTIONS INDIRECTES/Marque deposee", with perforated letters "CE" and stamped on the edge in black "0,175A" (on a), "3,084" (on b), "0,581D" (on C), and "065E" (on d); a tube of paper in the tall, thin tube on top, with printed graduations numbered from "0" to "5" (on a), from "4" to "14" (on b), from "14" to "24" (on c), and from "24" to "34" (on d). (e) Hinged, flat box, covered on the exterior with brownish stamped fabric (?), with stamped gold trademark on the corner of the cover, inscribed "PER VINUM/J. SALLERON/DUJARDIN/Succr/PARIS" within an oval; metal strip with embossed numbers "39-2" nailed to the front; two brass tab locks on the front; the interior lined with dark red velvet; stamped in gold "Mon SALLERON. DUJARDIN SUCCr./ PARIS" on the top; the lower part fitted to hold the four hydrometers, arranged alternately, with red silk ribbons on each to assist in their removal from the case.Provenance
