Physical DescriptionCup with Signature and Other Inscriptions. Colorless, with minute bubbles; decorated in brown and yellow. Blown; stained, scratched. Cup: cylindrical. Rim plain, with rounded lip; wall (Th. 0.1 cm) vertical, but curving in at bottom; base plain and slightly concave; pontil mark (D. 1.7 cm). Probably decorated on exterior only: single register with horizontal borders at top and bottom. Border at top (W. 1.5 cm) contains 17 pointed oval motifs enclosed by wavy lines and separated by vertical pairs of ring-and-dot motifs. Border at bottom (W. 0.35 cm) has band of repetitive curvilinear motifs. Register is divided into three unequal compartments by vertical panels (W. 1.7 cm) containing scrolling half-palmettes. Borders and panels are painted in brown and have scratched details. Each compartment contains different floriated motif painted in brown and with scratched zigzags or rows of circles, and with some elements filled with yellow (clockwise): (1) pseudo-Kufic "inscriptions;" (2) floriated Kufic inscription consisting of triangular base supporting two horizontal branches that turn up at ends and become tall half-palmettes; between them is single circular element flanked by curving stems that also terminate in half-palmettes; and (3) same as (1). On underside of base, surrounding pontil mark, open brown circle with signature above and below it.
