Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless, with greenish tinge. Blown; relief-cut. Bowl: shallow. Rim plain; wall (TTh. 0.25 cm)curves down and in, and is almost horizontal as it approaches plain, narrow base (D. 4.3 cm); no pontil
mark (but see below). Exterior has elaborate relief-cut ornament (Th. 0.1 cm): recessed medallion (D. about 22.5 cm), which begins about 1 cm below rim and has, at center, raised disk (D. 4.3 cm) containing countersunk disk with double outline. Disk is surrounded by regular hexagon with concave sides. Identical motifs spring from each angle of hexagon, and together they fill entire medallion. Each motif has two parts. First, inner part consists of lyre-shaped element with tendrils, and terminals ending in half-palmettes. Second part begins in interior of lyre and contains raised element shaped like keyhole, bottom of which has kiteshaped embellishment; stalk extends above top of keyhole and divides into two scrolling stems terminating in half-palmettes. Space between each pair of lyreshaped motifs is occupied by single stalk, which grows out of bulb and terminates in three leaves. Above this, in space between each pair of scrolling stems and attached to them, is one full palmette. Hexagon, lyreshaped motifs, stalks, and stems have double outlines.
