This telescope is about 300 years old, composed in whole from African elephant ivory, and has not been repaired or modified with ivory after 1973. It has been in the extended Gibson family since before 1896. That year, Thomas Gibson died in Scotland, at which time his heirs took possession of it. Jerry Gibson took possession in June 1957, when it came from Scotland to Ohio. Evidence consists of records mentioned in an appraisal dated April 14, 1977 and from family oral history. Jerry Gibson passed in 2012, at which time it came into the possession of Russell Gibson (Jerry Gibson's son).
Former Collection Jerry Gibson (d. 2012) - 1957-06-17-2012
