Interpretive Notes
In this work, the artist presents a large potato that is attached to its vessel with a glass chain. It is one of a humorous series of vegetables chained to vessels, which is meant to provoke questions rather than to answer them. Curiosity, methods of inquiry, and the relationship between science and art are themes that recur in Meitner’s work, which is characterized by ambiguity and unusual juxtapositions of objects.
