Interpretive Notes
The Blaschkas used preformed parts when they created some of their models. These parts include anemone bodies, sea jelly domes, and the central disks of sea stars. The Blaschkas used many different techniques to achieve great variety in shape, size, color, and ornate detail.
Physical DescriptionParts of Glass Models of Marine Animals. Colorless and red glasses, yellow and red paint; flameworked, painted. Four colorless ovoid shapes, each encompassing a smaller glass ovoid painted yellow. Each yellow ovoid contains cylinder of glass painted red. Largest ovoid in this set has four small dots of red glass at its top. In addition to four parts noted above, there is one ovoid shape painted yellow containing a cylinder of glass painted red; this shape is not encompassed by larger colorless ovoid.
