Physical DescriptionVase. Dark blue. Blown, mold-blown; applied, cold-painted, gilded. Round, flattened body rising to conical neck with applied wavy band about 5 cm below slightly lopsided fire-polished rim. Attached on shoulder and band, two mold-blown (19 ribs) handles that are infolded at base and curve out alongside neck. Two raspberry prunts are attached to edges of folds of each handle. Body is joined by glue-bit to flattened mold-blown between two mereses atop pedestal foot with infolded rim and pontil mark of colorless glass.Vessel was originally decorated with allover cold painting and gilding, which, apart from minute traces, is almost entirely lost. Slightly more substantial patches survive only on neck, where floral ornaments painted in green (perhaps initially translucent, but now oxidized into opaque dark brown-green) and translucent red on scratched gold-leaf surface are arranged in friezes atop each other.
Body was flattened unevenly, probably with wet wooden paddle. Steam imprinted diagonal grooves into glass, corresponding to direction in which paddle was moved. Larger grooves on one side of body trapped traces of gilding and cold paint. Some claylike residue on part of rim must have been produced during hot-working process. Vase may have touched walls of annealing oven.
