Physical DescriptionTransparent blue glass; blown, applied, wheel-cut, ground and polished. Pear-shape, rim everted with slightly beveled upper surface; short neck, which splays and merges with body; wall continues to splay, reaching maximum diameter near bottom, below which it curves inward; base flat; flat, strap-like handle dropped onto upper part of body, drawn outward and downward and attached to wall immediately above greatest diameter; faceted decoration covers most of body, except around handle, and underside of base: on body, beginning at level of upper handle attachment, nine horizontal rows of contiguous facets, each row touching the next to make all-over pattern of facets arranged in quincunx; facets vary slightly in size and shape, some being elongated hexagons, others elongated rhombuses, and others more or less oval, but all are longer in vertical axis; below bottom row of vertical facets, one row of contiguous oval facets which are longer in horizontal axis; on underside of base, eleven parallel rows of contiguous elongated oval or diamond-shaped facets, each row touching the next to make all-over pattern of facets arranged in quincunx; number of facets in each row varies between one and four; rows are parallel to axis of handle; decoration consists of herringbone design of six pairs of shallow transverse cuts, each pair making a V-shaped motif.
