Physical DescriptionClear glass with few minute bubbles; free-blown and engraved. Solid conical foot with ground pontil, short concave stem, funnel bowl; engraved poem by Cats on the bowl framed by leaves, flowers, grapes and butterflies and surmounted by the title in italics: "De Waarheid in den Wijn":/De wyn----ontsluyt de stomme monden/En roert de geesten om tot aen wyckt dick mael uytte baen./Doch wyst des niet te min de rechte waerheyt aen."/ Cats."; the poem is in praise of wine; on the reverse side an inscription in italics: "Mit Achting van (?) de Wed (?) Heer S. Hartog. M.D."; below, under a large pitcher, the signature: "Mit Diamant D. H. de Castro 1850".
