Physical DescriptionFragment. Almost colorless; gold foil, blue enamel. Blown; decorated with foil and enamel, cased, wheel-cut. Fragment from lower wall and base of vessel. Wall descends vertically before curving in at bottom; base is plain, thicker at center than at edge, with prominent pontil mark. Overlay is less than 0.1 cm thick. Decoration consists of horizontal border (W. 0.5 cm) of gold foil, above which, side by side, are parts of two inverted heart-shaped elements, also of gold foil. Each of these contains palmette with, on either side of palmette, one blue dot. Heart-shaped elements are contiguous, and, where they meet, two horizontal lines were scratched through foil. Presumably, these elements were part of continuous band of ornament surrounding lower wall. Underside of base has, at center, rather irregular wheel-cut rosette with eight pointed petals. Each petal has one radial cut on its long axis, and one short radial cut projects from junction of each pair of petals. Cutting extends over the pontil mark, which was neither ground nor polished.Provenance
