Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass, painted in browns, blacks, grays and flesh tones; flat glass probably blown by cylinder method, then cold painted on reverse, wooden frames painted gold. Flat rectangle; bust portraits of (A) George Washington and (B) Martha Washington. George is copied after Gilbert Stuarts famous portrait in the Boston Athenaeum. The president has powdered hair, faces to the viewer's right in a 3/4 pose and is wearing a dark coat and white jabot. The background is muddy. Martha Washington faces left and wears a scarf on her head which is tied under her chin. Her dress is dark and featureless.
