Physical DescriptionTransparent reddish purple glass; blown, scratch-engraved. Fragment of cylindrical cup, including one-fifth to one-quarter of rim. Rim plain, with rounded lip, which is thickened on inside; wall vertical. Wall was decorated with at least two horizontal bands of scratched ornament. Upper band is narrow and has single border lines above and below, with one additional horizontal line between upper border and rim; it contains row of adjoining isosceles triangles, bases of which are formed by lower border, and apexes of which touch upper border; they are filled with transverse hatching. Lower band is broad and has single border line at top; it is divided into panels, each of which is enclosed at sides by single border line, with plain, narrow strips between borders of adjacent panels. Parts of three panels survive (from left to right): (1) wide panel filled with wavy lines that together form lattice of diamond-shaped compartments; plain compartments alternate with hatched compartments, making checkerboard pattern; (2) narrow panel with vertical chainlike-motif row of adjoining circles, three of which are filled with transverse hatching and two of which contain small circles, which are hatched; and (3) similar to (1), but with lattice composed of straight, not wavy, lines.
