Interpretive Notes
“Infected” with foreign materials—rocks, pieces of brick, and window glass—Maria Bang Espersen’s blown glass vessels slowly crack and disintegrate over time, offering an achingly beautiful reading on mortality and impermanence. -Aric Chen
Physical DescriptionInstallation, "Things Change". Colorless glass, brick, rock, window glass; blown. Five (5) blown colorless glass narrow-necked vases containing window glass and pieces of rocks or bricks. The inherent incompatibility of the materials causes purposeful deterioration like cracks, which will turn the vases into new shapes as they are handled and displayed. (a) Vase with three large fragments of glass adhering to body and two large fragments that have separated from vase; (b) vase with small rocks; (c) vase with one large fragment of glass adhering to body; (d) vase with red bricks; (e) vase with large rocks.
