Interpretive Notes
Tiffany began advertising jewelry featuring iridescent Favrile beetles cut from stamped glass tiles in 1909. His personal collection of Egyptian jewelry containing necklaces made from dried Egyptian scarab beetles inspired Meta Overbeck when designing this collar as well as other necklaces, pins, bracelets, and buckles.
Physical DescriptionFavrile Beetle Necklace. Glass, silver-gilt metal; pressed, iridized, assembled. Necklace composed of 23 pressed, iridized Favrile blue glass beetles in a silver-gilt metal collet setting. The glass beetles are arranged in two rows spaced by beaded silver-gilt columns. Three glass beetles suspend from the center of the lower row.
