Physical DescriptionTransparent greenish glass; free-blown, cold painted. Pear- shaped body with very wide, short neck with thickened rim, applied pad foot with concave center having rough pontil mark applied ribbed handle attached to neck and central body; attached to the handle is a metal, possibly copper mount with thumb piece and cover in form of section of the sphere with a blossom and leaf finial, and strap work ornaments on the top of the cover; another metal ring cut into leaves surrounds the foot; on the object in multicolored paint, the double headed crowned eagle of the German Empire, with blue orb of state supporting a double cross-like scepter, on the wings the multicolored coats of arms of the parts of the Holy Roman Empire, at the end of the wings two flaming symbols, on top of the heads of the eagle the initials: "D.H.R.R.M.S.S.G." (Das heilige romische Reich mitsamt seinen Gliedern); on the reverse the remains of a date, apparently 1631; in the empty spaces a few white rosettes; white dashes on the handle, at the bottom of the body a row of white dots.Provenance
