Physical DescriptionClear glass with minute bubbles and impurities; free-blown, enameled and gilded. (a) Almost cylindrical body with pushed up base having rough pontil mark and applied foot ring; (b) set-in domed cover with flange and multi-knopped finial, with double knopped lower part supporting a stemmed smaller ball knop; enamel decoration: the double headed Empire eagle, in black and white with yellow dotted halos and blue orb of state, yellow cross accentuated by red, on the wings the multicolored coats- of-arms of the parts of the Holy Roman Empire; on the left and right of the heads: "Anno Domini 1649"; very small on the reverse: "Das heillige Romische Reich Sampt mitt seinen gliedern"; grass tufts are flanking the tail, white rosette-like ornaments on the side are flanking the neck of the eagle, dash border on the foot ring, around the bottom a row of white arcades surmounted by two red and one yellow strip, below rim a gold band with white dotted lines forming ovals and diamonds, above and below the gold band rows of dots and arcades; on the cover white dashes on the flange, a green and yellow wreath around the shoulder, on top of the cover a frieze of radiating dashes in blue, red, yellow and white, white dashes on the different parts of the finial.
