Interpretive NotesPhysical DescriptionSnuff Bottle with Stopper and Stand. Transparent pale aqua glass, mother-of-pearl, wood, cork; blown, carved. (a) Tall, ovoid form, the interior ground; short neck with flared rim, the top polished flat, with an opening in the top for a stopper and spoon; rounded shoulders; the slightly tapering sides relief-cut in a series of eight rounded vertical panels, with lobed scrolls at the tops, petals at the bases, and with series of square dots arranged in sets of three vertically on each panel; cut circular foot ring with recessed base. (b) Domed cap in “officer’s hat” shape with raised knob; tapered cork shank; long mother-of-pearl spoon, with slender handle and pointed oval spatulate bowl. (c) Turned wood stand, with recessed top and turned molding; bulbous turned molding on the sides; bulbous turned molding at the base; on four tiny flared feet.
