Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless, with yellowish tinge. Blown, applied; linear-cut. Pitcher: biconical. Rim plain, with bevel on outside; neck in form of truncated cone; base flat, with rounded edge; pontil mark (D. 1.2 cm); handle attached to wall, drawn up and out, then in and reattached to top of neck; circular thumb-rest. Broad, somewhat slipshod linear-cut decoration on neck and wall. On neck: three large U-shaped motifs, joined at the top, with V-shaped motif inside each U and in spaces on either side of central U. On wall: single panel, which begins and ends at sides of handle; it is defined at top by two horizontal lines and at ends by single slanting line, which bends outward at bottom; there is no lower border. Panel contains two ogee arches with double outlines; arches are connected at bottom by short horizontal lines, and they have similar lines extending to edges of panel; each arch contains, at top, two concentric pendent arcs below area of crosshatching and, at bottom, four comma- or hook-shaped motifs and very short, straight cuts. Area between arches contains two concentric arcs with inverted V-shaped motif on each side and trefoil underneath. Areas between arches and sides of panel also have pairs of concentric crescents. Beneath pairs of lines that link and flank arches are groups of comma-shaped motifs and short, straight cuts.Provenance
