Physical DescriptionTransparent dark red non-lead glass; blown, carved; gilt metal mounts; carnelian. (a) Cylindrical shape with slightly everted rim; sides carved in high relief, with a narrow foliate border below the rim, an undulating band of cornucopias with fruit (pine cones) and large, swirling flowers, and with an acanthus leaf border near the base; incised groove above the foot; flat base with rough pontil mark. (b) Domed shape, the annular glass part with a band of relief-carved acanthus leaves, matching that on (a); with a silver-gilt rim and cap, the latter with chased swirling leaves, and a baluster-shaped carnelian finial.Provenance
