Physical DescriptionGoblet. Colorless non-lead glass; blown, relief-carved, engraved. Waisted, bell-shaped bowl, with relief-carved decoration forming three panels, each with a stylized shell above, and with shells above the spaces between the panels; relief-carved foliate scrolls above, at the sides and below oval panels formed of relief-carved scrolls; one panel with a relief-carved stylized pine tree and the engraved inscription "Aucun temps/ne le Change"; in another panel, a relief-carved American Indian, holding a club over his shoulder, leaning on a bow, a quiver of arrows at his side, wearing a bonnet of feathers on his head; trees in the background; in the third panel, a man wearing a short jacket and pants and a hat, holding a bird on his outstretched right arm; an animal (monkey ?) standing at his right; engraved beaded swags below each panel; engraved pendant interlaced tassels below the shells between the panels, with stylized relief-carved foliate devices below; three relief- carved panels with zig-zag borders, matte fields and concave oval lenses at the centers of each, semicircular scoops in the tops of each panel, and rounded projections at either side; concave polished ovals in the plain areas between the matte panels; the solid base of the bowl undecorated; rounded merese above a flattened ball-knop stem with three relief-carved foliate devices, each with a raised diamond in the center; rounded merese below the knop; large, circular foot with a wreath of relief-carved, stylized leaves and engraved floral sprays between; engraved border of stylized flowers at the rim; rough pontil mark.
