Physical DescriptionWhite plaster and gray-green tinted wax; cast, sculpted, modeled. Gently tapering truncated solid inverted conical form with flat base and top; square, beveled edge hole extends from base to top through center but is plugged at base with wax; pencil and ink markings on top of object; small thin piece of red wax adheres near edge of top; frieze of eight standing figures encircles the form; four figures numbered at top: 1, 2, 3, 4; all figures numbered at bottom: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, VI, VII, VIII; but note that numbers 1-4 at top correspond to numbers 5, VI, VII, VIII at bottom; sculpted lines delineate registers within which the figures stand; each figure is deep cut into plaster and modeled in wax inset into the cut; all figures are draped, standing, and probably female; figures 1, 3, 5, and VII (according to the bottom numbering system) have one or both arms extended; numerous small holes on the surface are plugged with wax; unsigned.Provenance
