Physical DescriptionTranslucent deep blue glass with two layers of overlay: opaque white under translucent amethyst; perhaps cast; cased; carved (cameo technique); interior lathe-polished. Fragment from vertical wall; translucent amethyst overlay carved, leaving decoration in low relief on white ground. Part of horizontal band with upper and lower border, divided by narrow vertical and horizontal lines into two vertical rows of panels. Panels on left are square and each contains human figure: (1) (bottom) female, kneeling left with torso shown frontally and head turned to right, arms bent and forearms raised as in prayer or supplication; (2) squatting or kneeling figure; (3) apparently as (1). Panels on right are rectangular and each contains animal facing left: (1) (bottom) bull, (2) hippopotamus, (3) jackal. Above upper border of panel with jackal, perhaps part of another animal.
