Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved. Tall, bell- shaped bowl, with band of cut circles around rim and larger cut ovals at base; elaborately engraved scene of three men, two standing and one seated, in a room, framed by foliate scrolls; on reverse, an "N" with rays projecting from behind it, above wreath of foliage tied with a ribbon, enclosing the inscription "Goethe/et Wieland/chez Napoleon"; signed "Guillaume Herve" in diamond-point script below lower right side of scene; faceted baluster stem with ball knop below; disk foot with engraved foliate scrolls and flowers on upper surface of foot; oval printed paper label on underside of foot, inscribed "INT. TENTOONSTELLING VAN OUDE KUNST . RIJKSMUSEUM/AMSTERDAM 1936 ." and inscribed "WEINT (?)/" and an indecipherable number (1846?).Provenance
