Physical DescriptionColorless, transparent deep blue, opaque white glasses; manipulated, blown, cased, cut, ground and polished. Goblet with semi-ovoid bowl, tall stem and conical foot. Bowl: colorless with blue overlay; rim plain with flat upper surface; wall curves downward and inward to bottom. Stem: at center, vertical cane with four spirally wound blue rods inside one spirally would cane with eight parallel white rods, all in colorless matrix and cased with colorless glass. Foot: solid cone; underside flat at edge and with broad, shallow concavity at center; cut, ground and polished ornament. On bowl, continuous frieze of geometric ornament cut through overlay; two superimposed oval motifs, each with five-sided compartment containing star-shaped element at either end; remaining space within ovals contains three- and four-sided panels with stars or cross-hatching, and (at center) octagonal area without decoration, below which there is one small bubble at center and concentric ring of six small bubbles; between ovals, four fan-like sprays of straight oval cuts; at base of bowl, wall descends vertically for short distance with blue cut away and colorless cut in eight vertical facets; below this wall tapers. Stem tapers, flares and tapers to form horizontal rib, then splays before descending almost vertically, all within space of two cm; short, upper part of stem cut in six vertical facets with rows of notches at meeting points; lower, longer part of stem also cut in six vertical facets, offset from upper facets, also with notches at meeting points. Foot again cut in six vertical facets, notched meeting points of which are vertically below meeting points in upper part of stem.Provenance
