Interpretive Notes
The architectonic shapes, fragile granular textures, and rough edges of Trinkley’s pâte de verre vessels give the impression of great age. Her work is inspired by ancient ruins, by the Roman glass vessels that are known as cage cups, and by patterns found in the art of ancient and indigenous cultures.
Physical DescriptionDeep blue, pale aqua non-lead glasses; clay positive, refractory mold, pate de verre. Deep central bowl surrounded by an openwork "cage" in a herringbone pattern joined at regular points to inner bowl; "cage" is in four stepped tiers that taper towards base; exterior diagonal sections of "cage" have been loosely brushed with pale aqua paint; overall reddish clay refractory mold remnants left throughout surface; surface has general rough, granular appearance; unsigned.
