Physical DescriptionTransparent deep blue, with many bubbles. Blown; facet-, linear-, and slant-cut. Bottle with globular body. Rim plain, with flat top finished by grinding; neck long and cylindrical, but slightly wider at bottom than at top; base slightly convex, with foot ring made by folding; no pontil mark. Decorated on neck and wall. On neck, five continuous horizontal bands defined by either one or two grooves (from top to bottom): (1) plain, (2) with eight facets shaped like parallelograms and arranged in chevrons, with triangular or semicircular facets in the triangles above and below the chevrons (3) with 13 small triangular facets, their apexes alternately facing up and down; (4) similar to (2), and (5) with seven tall rectangular facets separated by narrow strips. Upper wall has narrow band containing two ribbons twisted into cable, with transverse hatching in spaces between ribbons; below this, wider band containing two pairs of standing birds shown in profile facing one another across fleur-de-lis and with their tails separated by large winged palmettes; bodies of birds, fleur-de-lis, and palmette are hatched or cross hatched; birds' eyes are countersunk dots and wing coverts are slant-cut.Provenance
