Physical Description(A,B) Colorless glass, with opaque red, brown, and white enamel, and gilding; (A,B) preformed colorless plate decorated on upper surface with enamel; identical colorless plate placed over enameled surface and ensemble heated so that lower and upper plates fused; upper surface of ensemble painted with gold. (A,B) Plate. Rim is plain, horizontal flange, with vertical edge that has slight groove at junction of fused elements; wall short and very shallow; base plain. Enameled decoration sandwiched between fused elements: sixteen equidistant, radial red stripes extending from center almost to near edge of rim, each with three bulb-like protrusions, one near inner end, one near midpoint, and one at outer end; between each pair of red stripes, one radial white stripe with bulb at outer end and one shorter brown stripe, also with bulb at outer end. Gilded decoration consists of, on upper surface, three continuous concentric bands: at center, spiral; half way between center and edge, narrow band of short dashes and dots; near edge, broader band of dotted and dashed lines. Signature on base, with diamond point: "higgins" (sic, cursive).Provenance
