Physical DescriptionColorless; transparent blue, pale yellowish brown, and pale yellow; translucent deep blue, deep bluish green, and purple; opaque white glasses; cast from slices of preformed monochrome rods and mosaic-glass canes. Hemispherical bowl (incomplete; rim not finished). Formed from slices of five types of hexagonal mosaic-glass cane and one type of hexagonal rod: (1) pale yellow circle containing two green squares, surrounded by white star and colorless outer band; (2) pale yellow circle containing four purple squares, surrounded by white star and colorless outer band; (3) spirally wound white and deep blue in yellowish brown matrix; (4) spirally-wound white and purple in yellowish brown matrix; (5) yellow star-shaped motif containing four purple squares, surrounded by white star and transparent blue outer band; (6) transparent blue. On lower part of vessel, canes are arranged in two concentric spirals extending from center; on upper part, they are arranged in more or less horizontal stripes. Each spiral or band is two slices wide. Inner spiral (from center): group of slices of type 5, followed by groups of type 6, type 5, and type 4; outer spiral: group of type 4, followed type 3. Lower stripes: groups of types 4 and 6; upper stripe: continuous band of types 1 and 2. In several places, voids between groups of canes. On exterior, extending from center to edge: on radial ridge imparted by mold. Adhering to surfaces: traces of white substance, presumably separating agent from surface of mold.Provenance
