Physical DescriptionCovered Goblet. Clear glass with few bubbles; free blown, tooled, cut and engraved. (a) Folded conical foot with rough pontil mark, slightly inverted baluster stem, resting on a conical disk and surmounted by a large ball knob and a smaller knob which is separated from funnel bowl by two disks; (b) set-in double domed cover with pontil mark and with baluster finial resting on a knob. Cut decoration: almost circular flutes on top of foot, whole stem faceted, bottom of bowl cut in dots and facets, on top of cover a band of dots, faceted finial. Engraved decoration: portrait of a Queen in profile (Elisabetha Petrovna, grandmother of Catherine the Great; information given by Jerome Strauss), surrounded by a garland of leaves and blossoms, on reverse side initials: "E. P." surmounted by a royal crown and also surrounded by a similar garland, between the two panels are flowers; on cover two leaf ornaments.
