Interpretive NotesThis lantern was engraved by George Franklin Lapham at the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, between 1865 and 1875. It was made for "G. Lavery" whose name is on the shade. Lapham worked at the Sandwich firm from 1836 until the 1880's, although he served in the Army during the Civil War. He is the only Sandwich engraver who is known to have signed his work.
