Physical DescriptionOpaque black, opaque reddish-brown non-lead glass; flameworked. Lifelike and life-sized insect with double-lobed body (front lobe is circular, rear is semi-ovoid), three pairs of articulated legs, each leg has three short pulled points, one pair of legs extends forward from front lobe, second and third pairs extending towards rear from rear lobe; two applied reddish-brown eyes attached near base of elongated "horn" that extends horizontally from frontal lobe, horn has double-fan tip, very short pair of amber pincers, placed over slightly longer pair of black antennae with ball tips, longer pair of antennae with thickened tips curve out from side of "horn" base; front body lobe is reddish-black with short "horn" with bisected tip emerging from top towards front, concentric lines radiate from "horn", larger rear lobe is swollen and is squared at front and curved at rear, opaque reddish-brown upper surface, bisected by impressed line; swollen under body decorated with rows of impressed horizontal lines impressed on underside of forward section of body: "VC".Provenance
