Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass, white sulphide; blown, cut, encased, molded sulphide. (a) Polygonal, panel-cut shape; flat, paneled rim; panel-cut cylindrical neck, ground for a stopper and spreading shoulder; vertical, panel-cut sides, with an oval convex panel on the front, enclosing an oval molded sulphide plaque with papal coat of arms, a ribband above, inscribed "ANTE RUET QUAM NOSTRA FIDES", a papal hat above a crowned coat of arms consisting of an arcade structure, with crosier and papal mitre above; suspended order below, with crossed palm fronds below; reverse flat; waisted panel-cut sides below; circular disk foot with a circular panel of cut hexagonal pointed facets on the underside. (b) Panel-cut and chamfered octagonal top, tapered panel-cut stem; polished, tapered shank with polished base.Provenance
