Physical DescriptionWineglass, "Four Seasons." Colorless non-lead glass of smoky bluish cast; free-blown and engraved. Funnel bowl and heavy drawn stem with large sharply tapering tear, sides in unbroken tapering line from rim to applied sloping circular foot with wide under folded rim. Engraved decoration: at rim, narrow band with "saw tooth" fringe having tiny quatrefoil in v's and large one at points; four seasons medallion on bowl -- "1" above a ribbon with "In fruhling -- alles neu" (In spring everything is new), above rayed sun at center top of rose and lily-like flower sprays enclosing (nude) woman with basket of flowers; "2" above ribbon with "den somer gottes segen" (God blesses the summer) above rayed sun at center top of wreath of grain sprays enclosing (nude) man with leaf of grain and sickle; "3" above ribbon with "der herbst gibt villerley" (fall provides all variety) above rayed sun at center top of vintage and leaf spray enclosing (nude) man with basket of produce; "4" above ribbon with "In winder sich zupflegen" (In winter one has to take care of ones- self) above a berried spray and a laurel spray enclosing man on sled; on stem, arcade of arch panels, with beaded tops, alternately plain and latticed with quatrefoil motif like that in rim-border in lattice; on foot, in line with seasons, flower spray, grain, grapes and vine, bare branch.
