Physical DescriptionCovered Tankard. Transparent dark blue non-lead glass; blown, engraved, gilt, zwischengold medallion; pewter cover. Cylindrical shape, slightly flared at the base; elaborately engraved and gilt scrolls, leaves and a crown surrounding three inset zwischengold oval medallions: one (front) with a half-length figure of a woman portrayed on a silver ground, and two with elaborate gilt mirror monograms against red ground (one composed of the letters "MA", the other "JAV"); applied strap handle with curled end at the lower terminal; ground pontil mark; applied pewter rim, with attached hinge, a molded leaf extending down the handle, and a molded, flat, circular cover with ball thumb piece; inset medal in the top, with a man's portrait, inscribed "FRID . AUG . D . G . /DUX. SAX. ELECT ."; engraved initials "G . A . A . K" at the front.Provenance
