Physical Description(Glass) Colorless; cream, pink, red, green, yellow, blue, chocolate, gold (wax); blown, handle applied; decorated by winding wax-covered thread around entire wall and underside of base, and applying transfer-printed and varnished or lacquered medallion, and wax flowers. Mug. Rim plain; wall tapers and straightens before splaying to greatest diameter 1.7 cm above base and tapering again; base plain, with low kick; handle dropped onto top of wall, pulled out, down, and in, and re-attached to wall at greatest diameter. Glass has many small bubbles. Thread covered with cream-colored wax (D. about 0.2 cm) wrapped tightly around wall from rim to bottom, and coiled around center of base, completely covering outside of vessel (but not handle). At mid-point of wall, opposite handle, oval medallion printed with Mary, crowned and nimbed, and wearing pink dress under blue cloak, holding infant Jesus, also crowned and nimbed; edges of medallion framed with gold wax with simple stamped decoration; on each side of medallion, branching spray of wax leaves, flowers and berries in relief; stems are reddish chocolate, pointed oval leaves are green and brown, flowers are yellow, blue red, and pink, with gold blobs at centers, berries are blue; at top and bottom of wall, continuous horizontal band of gold wax stamped with ring and dot motifs; behind handle, cross- or star-shaped arrangement of gold wax dots and oval motifs.
