Physical DescriptionBrown salt-glazed stoneware; turned, enameled. Baluster shape; turned, tapered pewter rim cemented on the body; enameled yellow band below; blue and white "ropework" band; enameled decoration on the sides, of two large oval panels framed with wreaths of green leaves with yellow enameled "fruit", stylized red flowers at top and bottom, the wreaths framing portraits of a man in grey frock coat and black tricorn hat, and a woman in black coat, white collar, carrying a fur muff; both depicted against blue background; a blue shield in the center, framed with yellow, white and blue arcs, containing a red heart, flaming, pierced by two arrows, a saw, and with a chain entwined around clasped hands below; an angel's head with green wings above the shield; inscribed in white enamel above the panels "Johannes/ Georg", and at the back, behind the handle "Anno/1701"; elaborate, colorful tulips on the back; random scattered blue, red, and white waves around the shield in front; yellow band at the bottom, with waisted section above a flaring foot rim; the waisted section with white enamel inscription "Diesen hat friedrich Klasa deinen gefattern zu gutten andencken machen lasen"; enameled blue band below; applied rounded pewter rim; flat, unglazed bottom, with "2920." in black paint at the center, and a spot of red sealing wax; applied loop handle with enameled yellow head above a band of red, yellow and blue "foliage" (or beard ?) with central green band; domed cover with molded rim, hinged to the handle; incised "No 42/GFMB/1753" on top; thumb-piece broken off.Provenance
