Physical DescriptionClear lead glass; blown and cut. This very elaborate chandelier mainly consists of a vertical succession of large elements surrounded by a net-like structure of festoons and vertical chains, composed of faceted drops. The composite elements consist in the central section of a large bowl, a big inverted baluster and urn; on top another inverted baluster crowned by a reverse bowl which in turn supports the bell-shaped finial. From the large lower bowl is suspended a short and wide bowl-shaped section again scalloped, with a succession of two small knops and a large solid sphere. Festoons and vertical drop chains are attached to the upper inverted roof-like bowl to form an upper wreath of drops. Out of the large bowl emerges five S-shaped branches supporting the candle holders which have very elaborate sources. These branches alternate with snake-like upward-oriented branches supporting drop festoons, another succession of drop festoons which are also suspended from the candleholders below, as well as vertical drop chains ending in large star-like motifs. Shorter drop chains attached to the candleholder saucers, each having five chains. Another group of festoons and vertical drops are attached to the bottom section. A very elaborate facet cutting covers all glass surfaces, especially the central section, the bell-shaped motifs and drops, as well as the large sphere at bottom.See Object Folder for detailed listing of condition and parts that make up the Chandelier.
