Physical DescriptionColorless, translucent dark grayish-tan, opaque white non-lead glasses; manipulated, trailed, probably acid-etched or sandblasted, iridized. Large, solid sculpture in the shape of a pelican; the roughened body of dark grayish-tan glass; the beak colorless, encasing two dark gray iridized fish with striated opaque white fins, depicted as if they were swimming in the pouch, with scattered bubbles; the upper bill partly foil-gilded; a trailed three-part, leaf-gilded comb on top of the bird's head; foil-gilded colorless appliquéd eyes; colorless pincered foil-gilded feet; standing on a roughened colorless glass "rock"; the bottom polished flat, with a concave polished pontil mark in the center; inscribed (scratched) "Alfredo / Barbini" in script; circular orange paper sticker, printed "SOTHEBY'S / NEW YORK" and "153" in black; circular white paper sticker stamped "5148" in black.
