Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless glass with bluish green tint; translucent deep purple; blown, handles applied, appliqués applied and stamped. Hemispherical lamp. Rim slightly outsplayed, cracked off, and partly grozed; wall (Th. About 0.1 cm) curves down and in, and merges with rounded base; no pontil mark. Three vertical handles are spaced at regular intervals around wall. Each was made by dropping purple trail onto upper wall, drawing it out, down, and in, and re-attaching it to wall; trail was then dragged down wall and onto base, and pinched to form vertical row of eight semicircular projections. Handles alternate with three roughly circular purple appliqués on lower wall. Each appliqué (W. 3.5 cm) was stamped with grotesque mask in high relief; mask has hair drawn back from forehead, large bulging eyes, broad nose, and huge open mouth. Behind each appliqué, inner surface of wall has prominent bulb.
