Physical DescriptionColorless, partly iridized ("Verre de Soie"); blown, manipulated, rim finished at furnace, iridized, handle applied; after annealing, pontil scar removed by grinding and polishing, wall engraved. Basket, with roughly oval mouth tapering to cylindrical mid-section and flared bottom (iridized), and with vertical handle (not iridized). Rim plain, with rounded lip, hot-worked so that mouth has wavy edge; wall curves inward and downward, straightens in mid-section, and flares out to bottom, which is rounded; base plain, with ground and polished concavity at center; vertical handle, consisting of circular-section rod flattened at ends, applied to outside of rim at mid-point of longer axis of mouth and drawn up, over, and down, and attached to opposite side of rim; at each end of handle, circular appliqué decorated with half of raspberry molded in high relief. Engraved decoration: on wall, below one handle attachment, intricate motif composed of scrolling lines and elongated leaf-like elements, possibly monogram beginning with letter M.Provenance
