Physical DescriptionColorless glass with smoky-grey tinge and seeds, opaque white glass, pewter; blown, cane-worked, applied, pewter cast. Conical, straight-sided tankard, decorated with vertical white stripes consisting of flattened canes of opaque-white (lattimo) glass, with elongated air bubbles inbetween. Rim trimmed with shears(?). Slightly domed base and rough pontil mark. Plain thread laid round upper part, with attached, solid ear-shaped handle, which was applied first at its lower end, in the middle of vessel. Front of vessel with applied prunt, stamped with a bearded human mask bearing traces of gilding. Applied milled and flattened ribbon around base. Base of handle is doubled and pincered into a projection on which is applied a prunt with a central depression, filled with bubbly frit-like green glass, probably for the insertion of a (turquoise colored glass?) bead. Domed pewter cover, hinged to handle, with thumb rest moulded on front surface with scallop-shell and on back side with human mask. Inside cover traces of pewter mark: “N A” with object (a vase?) inbetween; upper portion of mark is not readable. Upper end of handle has been sheared-off and attached to thread with the help of pincers. Some lattimo canes end short of the center of the base. The canes were made of colorless glass with white casing.
