Physical DescriptionCulpeper-Type Compound Microscope with Slide. Turned wood, gold enamel, brass, colorless glass, mirror, bone. Wood and brass compound microscope with glass lenses. Cylindrical optical brass tube with internal eyepiece lens, inset in cylindrical wooden tube and mounted on stage on tripod brass S-shaped legs. Wooden tube decorated at top with painted vegetal swags. Objective lens set in brass over brass stage, with spring-loaded clips ("Bonanni spring stage") to hold slides in place. Stage mounted on second set of identical but larger legs, aligned with the other set. Rotating brass and glass swivel mirror positioned on base, on optical axis. Circular stepped wooden base, with gold enamel bands around edges and painted vegetal sprays on top surface between legs. One prepared slide with three specimens made from bone. (a) Brass and enameled wood tripod; (b) cylindrical enameled wooden tube; (c) brass tube with internal eyepiece lens; (d) brass objective lens with spring-loaded clips; (e) rotating brass and glass swivel mirror; (f) prepared slide.
