Interpretive Notes
The Scottish engraver Sir Muirhead Bone trained in Glasgow, and he was widely known for his engravings of architectural subjects. During World War I and World War II, he served as an official artist with the British armed forces, and he was knighted in 1937. In 1936, he published Old Spain, a two-volume collection of his watercolors and drawings.
Physical DescriptionVase, "Fountain in Spain" from the "Twenty-Seven Artists in Crystal" in crystal series. Colorless glass; blown and engraved. Vase has wide flared foot that narrows to low neck, widens to rounded body, then narrows slight to rim. Decorated with a engraved series of star designs just below rim and a central image of a large fountain with nine female figures.
